The Korean Service Medal

The Korean Service Medal is a decoration of the United States military and was created in November 1950 by order of President Harry Truman. The Korean Service Medal is the primary United States decoration for participation in the Korean War and is awarded to any U.S. service member, who performed duty in the Republic of Korea, between June 27, 1950 and June 27, 1954. The United States Department of Defense declared thirteen official campaigns of the Korean War, all of which are annotated by service stars on the Korean Service Medal. Some campaigns apply to all branches of the U.S. military, while others are branch specific.

6 Service stars are authorized to the Korean Service Medal for participation in the following campaigns, as noted by the Stars below. One Star earns the medal and subsequent campaigns each earn a Bronze Star. Five Bronze Stars are indicated on the Korean Service Ribbon above, by one Silver Star.

           Communist China Aggression (Navy): November 3, 1950 to January 24, 1951
       Inchon Landing (Navy): September 13 to 17, 1950
           First United Nations Counteroffensive (Army, Navy, USAF): January 25 to April 21, 1951
       Chinese Communist Forces Spring Offensive (Army, Navy, USAF): April 22 to July 8, 1951
       United Nations Summer-Fall Offensive (Army, Navy, USAF): July 9 to November 27, 1951
           Second Korean Winter (Army, Navy, USAF) : November 28, 1951 to April 30, 1952
       Korean Defense Summer-Fall, 1952 (Army, Navy, USAF): May 1 to November 30, 1952
       Third Korean Winter (Army, Navy, USAF): December 1, 1951 to April 30, 1953
           Korea, Summer 1953 (Army, Navy, USAF) : May 1, 1953 to July 27, 1953

The United Nations Service Medal

The United Nations Service Medal is an international military decoration which was established by the United Nations on December 12, 1950. The decoration was the first international award ever created and recognized the multi-national defense forces which participated in the Korean War.

The United Nations Service Medal is awarded to any military service member, of an Armed Force allied with South Korea, who participated in the defense of Korea from North Korean aggression between the dates of June 27, 1950 and July 27, 1954.

Republic Of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Medal

The Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation was awarded to units of the Armed Forces of the United States that displayed great gallantry under extremely hazardous conditions during the Korean War.

The Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation was accepted in accordance with Public Law 83-354, which authorized the acceptance and wear of foreign decorations, medals, and awards in connection with services rendered in Korea between June 27, 1950 and July 27, 1955.

The Korean War Service Medal - Republic Of Korea

The Korean Service Medal is the primary United States decoration for participation in the Korean War and is awarded to any U.S. service member, who performed duty in the Republic of Korea, between June 27, 1950 and June 27, 1954.

Combat Action Medal

This medal is awarded to members of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard for combat action service. The principal requirement is that the personnel must have been in a ground or surface combat fire-fight, or action during which they were under enemy fire, and that their performance under fire must have been satisfactory.

World War II Victory Medal

The World War II Victory Medal may be awarded to all members of the Armed Forces of the United States who served on active duty in World War II at any time between 7 December 1941 and 31 December 1946, both dates inclusive.

China Service Medal

The China Service Medal was a military medal awarded by U.S. Navy to personel who served ashore in China or were attached to any of the vessels that operated in support of operations in China between September 2, 1945 and April 1, 1957.

Navy Occupation Medal With Asia Clasp

The Navy Occupation Service Medal is a decoration of the United States Navy which was issued to Navy personnel who participated in the Asian occupation forces following the close of the Second World War.

The Pacific Clasp was authorized for any service performed in the Asiatic-Pacific area between the dates of September 2, 1945 and April 27, 1952. The USS TOLEDO served actively for periods in the Korean War from July 1950 through February 1953.
