Seattle, WA - September 4th through the 8th, 2008
A message from the President, excerpted from the SeaBlade II:
Ahoy USS Toledo CA-133 Shipmates and First Mates!
I have a feeling everyone enjoyed the reunion in Seattle held early in September.
I received many good comments from those who atteneded. Seattle is a great place to visit,
so much so that Judy and I took a few extra days to visit some of the nearby sights.
I wish to thank those who worked so hard to make this reunion possible. Vice President, Paul Specht and
his wife Carolyn, Secretary/Treasurer Bob Nadeau and his wife Shirley and Area Director Les Stanton spent many
hours preparing for our arrival at The Holiday Inn, Renton. Those who helped during the reunion; the Bruners
and the Starretts also need to be thanked. It takes many hands to make a reunion successful and I am grateful
to all who helped.
I would especially like to thank Lyle Gapen for his donation of all the fresh fruits and vegetables.
The Hospitality Room has never been so fully stocked with such wonderful variety of local abundance.
The Holiday Inn was such a great hotel for a reunion. They gave us everything we asked for and their
staff was so attentive to our every need. It was definitely a good choice made by the committee
searching out local hotels to fill our needs for the Reunion.
Judy and I attended our first reunion in 2000 in San Antonio, TX. I was impressed with the camaraderie of
the shipmates, the attendance and the success of that reunion. I knew no one when we arrived,
but so many of you took us under your wing and made us feel comfortable and welcome.
We are now part of the USS Toledo family; this is one of the reasons I decided to take on the job
as your new President.
If you have never attended a reunion for the USS Toledo, come to Washington, DC in 2010 and we will
extend our hands and hearts to you. The groundwork has been started for that reunion. We will have
some help this time around by using MRP (Military Reunion Planners). They were involved with the reunion
in Seattle and were invaluable.
The holidays are just around the corner and Judy and I wish you all a very blessed holiday season and a Happy New Year.
